On Wednesday, January 4th 2017, the Chamber of Commerce held its annual State of the Community Breakfast at the Hampton Inn Col Alto. The speaking panel for the evening included Lexington Mayor Frank Friedman, Buena Vista Mayor Larry Tolley, Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors Chairman John Higgins, Del. Ben Cline of the 24th District, and Sen. Creigh Deeds of the 25th District. Mayor Friedman spoke of spring plans for major water and sewer improvements in Lexington whereas Mayor Tolley spoke of downtown revitalization as a priority for Buena Vista in the upcoming year. However, all three local government officials addressed regional cooperation, for example, to address public safety. Both Del. Cline and Sen. Deeds spoke as well, pledging to spur economic development in the area.
It was wonderful to see so many members of the community show up to the event to hear and give input on the plans for the upcoming year. Thank you to all that were able to make it to another successful State of the Community Breakfast!
