Chamber of Commerce Appoints Executive Director

December 10, 2014 – Lexington, Va. – The Board of Directors announced today the selection of Tracy E. Lyons to serve as the Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce Serving Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County (lexrockchamber.com). Tracy will succeed Sammy Moore, who is retiring after more than twenty years of service in this role. A proven leader and an active, passionate member of the Chamber community, Lyons brings the dynamic combination of vision, leadership, management skills, Chamber experience, local perspective and strong community pride to this critical role.

Lyons’ professional experience includes management and leadership, event planning, membership development, creative design, strategic communications and social media strategy. For the past four years, she has served as the Director of Communications and Programs for Omicron Delta Kappa National Headquarters in Lexington. In this capacity, she directed all public relations and communications for the National Headquarters, served as editor of their national magazine, The Circle (published three times annually), led website development, social media strategy and served as event planner. Previously, Lyons held the title of Membership Recruitment Consultant for Alpha Omicron Pi International Headquarters in Nashville, Tenn., where she assisted 54 of the 108 active chapters with the development of year-round recruitment initiatives and education.

Reflections, Thanks, Farewell - Sammy Moore

With this being my final issue of Doorways and reflecting back to September, 1994, which was the first edition, it has been “a long run”.  It has been one that I have enjoyed, one that I have been proud to be a part of and one where I think we all have accomplished a lot.  In “reflecting” back, it has covered literally a third of my life.  My first 20 years were spent growing up in this wonderful community, the next 20 working for my family’s business (and I am equally proud of all we accomplished as a family sustaining an independent grocery store for almost 40 years, 1953-1992) and over the past 20 years (July 1, 1994) at this position.  My involvement with the Chamber goes back to 1989 as a member of the board so it is really a 25 year commitment.

State of the Community Breakfast

The Government Relations Committee is planning our Seventeenth Annual “State of the Community” Breakfast at Hampton Inn Col Alto on Tuesday, January 6th.  The event will begin with breakfast at 7:15 a.m.; the program running from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and from 8:45 a.m.-9:00 a.m. we will entertain questions from the floor.  The program will be completed by 9:00 a.m.  The cost of the event is $10.  We thank George Moore of Hampton Inn for hosting and George Huger of The Southern Inn Restaurant for again catering this event.
